Founded in 2011, ElectroRoute is an innovative energy trading & energy services business. ElectroRoute trades electricity in the international wholesale markets and through its team of experienced energy professionals it delivers independent analysis, advice and outsourcing to businesses in the electricity sector. Its current focus is the import and export of electricity between the markets of Ireland and Great Britain (GB) and on establishing new routes to market for independent power projects.

Ireland’s energy sector has undergone unprecedented changes in recent years, as ElectroRoute’s founder and CEO Ronan Doherty explains, “The establishment in 2007 of a new cross-border wholesale electricity market, the SEM, created an all-island energy market on the island of Ireland. Since then, other European initiatives have been pushing the market towards greater integration and cooperation between countries. This dynamic brings new and exciting opportunities in how business in done in the sector. ”

Having completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at University College Dublin (UCD) Ronan took up the position of Trading & Investment Risk Manager at the hugely successful Irish renewables and electricity supply company Airtricity, where he was responsible for a complex portfolio of generation and customer demand. In 2005, he moved to Edinburgh and joined start-up company Aquamarine Power as Chief Technical Officer and helped lead the development of their wave energy technology during a period of significant expansion and growth.

Upon returning to Ireland to pursue new business opportunities Ronan was anxious to establish a base in his native Donegal. “When I moved back home to Donegal it was important to me to be based here in the North West and CoLab has facilitated that ambition. Since joining CoLab our experience has been very positive. It’s a great environment from which to conduct our business and the excellent IT and teleconference facilities makes it easy to liaise with our Dublin office and with our clients.”
